Worship Ministries

Christ Church provides many opportunities for those who wish to learn, grow in faith, and serve the needs of others. Here are some of the worship ministries we are involved in.

Altar Servers

One way we incorporate youth in our services is through the ministry of altar serving. This position is open to young people aged 10 – 18, and involves helping clergy during the service. Typically, altar servers assist by helping prepare the altar for communion, taking up the collection, carrying the gospel book, and lighting candles.

Altar servers work on a regular rotation through the year. While not usually difficult to do, it is a job requiring maturity and personal responsibility. Youth or parents interested in this position should contact the rector or wardens for more information.

The Choir

Our Choir in Action

The choir, along with our music director, leads the congregation in music at our 10 a.m. Sunday services from September to June, and at some special services during the year. Rehearsals are usually on Thursday evenings.

We are always on the lookout for new members, so please contact Penny, our music director, if you might be interested in joining us.

Our Praise Band

Praise Band

Twice a month, generally on the second and fourth Sunday of the month, our praise band contributes to worship. You can see a video clip of them in action here. Both the choir and praise band contribute a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary praise songs.

The Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares and maintains the objects used for worship, such as linens, hangings, and silverware.  They usually meet on Saturday mornings to prepare for Sunday worship.  Members serve on a rotation basis. Please contact the Altar Guild President, Marilyn Keddy, for more information.

Readers

These are trained and commissioned to read the Bible lessons during worship services, and to lead prayers.  They serve on a regular rotation, prepared by Sandy Dawson

Lay Administrators of Communion

LAC’s are trained lay members who assist with communion during worship services.  Some Lay Administrators also bring communion to ill or shut-in parishioners. LAC’s serve on a rotating schedule, which is prepared by Sandy Dawson.

Sub-deacons

Sub-deacons are trained laypeople who assist the priest in setting the altar during communion services. They serve on a rotating schedule, prepared by Sandy Dawson.

Sidespeople

These provide information and service bulletins to those entering the church for services.  They collect the offerings of the congregation and direct the congregation to the altar during communion.  They also greet newcomers, and help them with questions they may have. Sidespeople serve on a rotating schedule, which is prepared by Sandy Dawson.

The Flower Guild

The guild operates on a regular schedule to arrange flowers for the beautification of our church.  These flowers are often given as gifts in memory of a loved one who has passed away. The guild is also particularly active during the Christmas and Easter seasons, during which more flowers are used for the beautification of our worship. Flower guild members serve on a rotating schedule, prepared by the Flower Guild President, Bonita Eley.

Projector Operators

Operators work the powerpoint projection system at our 10 am Sunday worship. This is also a rotating service schedule, maintained by Sandy Dawson.
