The World Day of Prayer is a long-standing tradition in Christian Churches around the world. Each year, we gather with other congregations for this ecumenical service of prayer and worship. The format for the service is slightly different every year because every year it is created by a different Christian group around the world. This year, we will be following a service written by Churches in Malaysia.
For the 2012 service, the World Day of Prayer for South Stormont area Churches will be held here at Christ Church, Long Sault on Friday, March 2nd @ 2 pm. Music and a short talk are included in the service. The worship will be followed by a light reception in the parish hall.
Come join us for this exciting event. It is open to all.
Please speak to Bonita Eley for details.
It’s that time again! Our next youth evening is scheduled for March 9th @ 7pm. This time, we meet here at Christ Church for a “coffee house” night. Youth groups from around the area will be gathering to hear live music by some of our youth leaders. This will also provide time to highlight the talents of our youth, where they can display art, tell a joke, sing a song, play an instrument, juggle or whatever! Snacks are provided too!
The evening is open to any youth aged 13 – 19, even if they aren’t members of the parish. Bring a friend along!
Please talk to Fr. Stephen for details.
The Sunday School Teachers’ Schedule is now updated for February – June and has been uploaded to the schedules page of our website. We’re starting with a new curriculum on February 19th, so teachers please remember to pick up your lesson plans.
Please talk to Melissa Alguire for details.
Ash Wednesday is the name given to the first day of Lent, which is a season of preparation and repentance leading up to Easter. This year, Ash Wednesday falls on February 22nd.
Come join us in worship as we observe this important date. Two Communion services are planned for the day: 10:30 am & 7 pm. The morning service will feature our regular Bible study in lieu of a sermon, while the evening service will feature sermon, music & choir.
Following tradition, worship services held that day will feature the imposition of ashes. These are ashes made from burning the palm branches used at Palm Sunday the year before. During the service, the ahses are used by the priest to smudge a sign of the cross on each worshipper’s forehead. This serves as a reminder to us of our mortality, since we will one day return to ashes. It reminds us therefore that we are to make our lives right before God, and correct those areas which have fallen into sin. After all, we will one day die and be asked to account for the life we have lived.
Please speak to Fr. Stephen for details on the service.
The great Shrove Tuesday Pancake tradition is alive and well at Christ Church. As we do each year, we mark the last day before Lent with this feast of pancakes. Come join us on February 21, from 4:30 – 6:30 pm, for a great meal of pancakes, sausages, baked beans and more.
Price is $9 for adults and $4.50 for kids over 5. Children 5 and under are free.
Please consider joining us and bringing a friend! We’re always looking for volunteers too, to help with the cooking, setup and cleanup. So come and lend a hand.
